McGlashen takes NAC player of the week honors
Athletics - posted on 4/20/2010
Lakeland freshman Andrew McGlashen has been selected as the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week in men's tennis for the week of April 12-18, the league announced late Monday.
McGlashen, who plays at the No. 2 singles and doubles spots, was dominant in helping the Muskies pick up a pair of 8-1 victories over Rockford and Aurora on Saturday. The Southampton, England, native defeated Rockford's Matt Saelens 6-1, 6-0, and knocked off Aurora's Cameron Wisniowicz 6-0, 6-0 in his next match.
In doubles play, McGlashen teamed up with freshman Jacob Halvorsen for an 8-1 win over the Regents and an 8-2 triumph against Aurora.
Against conference foes, McGlashen has yet to lose more than three games in one set in singles play and is undefeated in doubles competition. He has won seven straight singles matches and hasn't lost since Feb. 26 against UW-Oshkosh.
McGlashen is 12-4 in singles play and, playing with Halvorsen, is 6-4 in doubles.
Each week, the league's head coaches nominate a player from their own team to be voted on for each sport by NAC sports information directors.
