Muskies swept in non-conference finale by Carthage

SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland baseball team suffered back-to-back seven inning defeats, 23-0 and 20-1, on Wednesday in non-conference action at Lakeland.
In the second game, junior David Novak (Algoma, Wis.) broke up a Carthage no-hitter in the sixth inning with a single up the middle. The Muskies (21-17) scored later in the same inning on a wild pitch.
In Game 1, the Muskies totaled just four hits and left nine men on base. Junior Cal Post (Appleton, Wis.) and freshman Cody Riemer (Marion, Wis.) each recorded a hit and reached base twice.
On the day, Carthage (25-12), which was ranked ninth in the d3baseball.com Preseason Top 25, totaled 38 hits and allowed just six hits.
Wednesday's games also marked the final home contests for seniors Lee Chepil (Ladysmith, Wis.), Jacob Heinemeyer (Shiocton, Wis.) and Doug Novak (Algoma, Wis.).
The Muskies wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Northern Athletics Conference foe Edgewood. First pitch in the doubleheader at Stampfl Field in Verona, Wis., is slated for 4 p.m.
