Athletics - posted on 12/4/2010
Junior forward Mallory Magee had a season-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, but the Lakeland women's basketball team couldn't capitalize as they fell to Dominican University 73-68, on Saturday afternoon.
Magee had 18 points and seven rebounds in the second half on her way to her second double-double in three games. Two other Muskies finished in double figures, senior guards Mary Dennewitz (Chicago, Ill.) and Chelsea Coenen (Wrightstown, Wis.). Coenen finished with 18 points and three rebounds, while Dennewitz added 14 points, including going 6-8 from the charity stripe.
The Muskies trailed 33-32 at the half despite shooting just 37 percent from the field and allowing the Stars to shoot 48 percent. The second half wasn't much better as Lakeland shot 27 percent while Dominican shot 50 percent.
For the game, Lakeland shot 32 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. Dominican shot 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from three.
The Muskies didn't have an answer defensively for Dominican's Becky Christofferson, who hit 13-17 shots on her way to a game-high 33 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Budz added 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Despite some good individual performances, head coach Teri Johnson wasn't happy with the team's performance on defense.
