Athletics - posted on 12/18/2010

The Lakeland College women's basketball team led early, but couldn't contain a hot shooting Beloit team in a 64-54 non-conference loss at Beloit on Saturday.

Lakeland (4-5) led 15-8 six minutes into the game, but Beloit (2-5) got back into the game with an 8-0 run and the host Buccaneers led 35-34 at halftime.

Beloit scored the first seven points of the second half, but the Muskies responded and tied the game at 42 midway through the second half. Beloit went on a 12-2 run and the Muskies never got closer than four the rest of the way in losing their fourth straight game.

Beloit shot 55.8 percent for the game and 68.2 percent in the first half, and they held a 41-23 rebound advantage. The Muskies shot 36.1 percent.

Sophomore Dana Henrichs led Lakeland with 15 points, and junior Erin Cepa added 13. Junior Becca Tilleman had six steals.

Lakeland will break for Christmas, returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Concordia University Chicago.
