Lakeland falls to 0-3, UW-Oshkosh wins Muskie Classic

The Lakeland women's volleyball team lost its final game 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-22) to Millikin University in the Woltzen gymnasium this afternoon.

The Muskies came out flat footed and lacked energy in day two of the tournament. Head coach Chad Schreiber thought the girls would have been more anxious for today's games after an impressive showing against UW-Oshkosh Friday night.

"I thought they would have gone to bed anxious for their alarm clocks to go off knowing that if we gave that effort again in the morning, we might get a win. The effort we gave this morning failed in comparison to last night's. It was a disappointing showing today," said Schreiber.

The final game against Millikin was played without two key Muskie players, junior Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.) and senior Sam Schepek (Gladstone, Mich.).

"In our last game I thought we played better, especially with missing two of our starters. We started the tournament great, played bad in the middle and ended okay," said Schreiber.

Senior Kristine Raeder (Oostburg, Wis.) and freshman Katie Freitag (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) each recorded nine digs for the Muskies.

Lakeland resumes action next weekend in the Pizza Hut Classic in Oshkosh, Wis.

No. 6 UW-Oshkosh swept the tournament winning all three games to take home the championship. The Titans defeated Lakeland 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-14), Millikin University 3-2 (25-13, 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 15-10) and UW-River Falls 3-1 (25-19, 28-26, 25-18,25-16).
