Muskies get their first win

The Lakeland College volleyball team notched its first win in its Northern Athletics Conference opener on Tuesday, beating host Alverno College 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15).

Lakeland (1-7, 1-0) had several positives in the game including 15 serving aces, 33 digs and a .210 hitting percentage. Although they won the match, the coaches had some mixed opinions on how the Muskies played.

"We had several different line-ups play and perform well and we remained aggressive in our serves," said Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber. "However, we also had 12 serving errors and they scored 31 of their 43 points off our errors - that can't happen. I will never feel good about a win in which we give the opponent 31 points."

Freshman middle Amanda Dillman (Sheboygan, Wis.) played well with a game- and season-high nine kills and a .818 hitting percentage. Lakeland's setters senior Kristine Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and freshman Brittany Reindl (Kenosha, Wis.) had 18 and 10 assists, respectively. Junior libero Amanda Laganowski (Oostburg, Wis.) led the team with nine digs.

"As soon as we have six players that are producing consistently, we will have a line-up," said Schreiber. "Right now everyone is battling individual problems, but I know it can turn around any given night. We've been in this position before. We are winning and losing with smoke and mirrors right now, and once we start to play consistent, we will be a dangerous team."

The Muskies host Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
