It took awhile Thursday night, but the Lakeland College volleyball team delivered down the stretch to score a thrilling 3-2 win over Concordia University Chicago.
Lakeland (4-14, 2-5 Northern Athletics Conference) snapped a four-match losing streak with a 23-21 win in the fifth set. The other scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 20-25. CUC falls to 9-11 overall, 3-3 in the NAC.
It was Lakeland's fourth consecutive five-set match. Five of the Muskies' seven NAC matches this fall have gone five sets.
Lakeland was led by junior middle Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.), senior outside Sam Shepeck (Gladstone, Mich.) and freshman right side Anna Faust (Cross Plains, Wis.) Davis had a team-best 15 kills, while Shepeck and Faust added 10 each.
Senior setter Kristine Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) had team highs of 42 assists and 15 digs, while junior libero Amanda Laganowski (Oostburg, Wis.) also had 15 digs. Freshmen middles Emily Cecka (Plymouth, Wis.) and Amanda Dillman (Sheboygan, Wis.) led the Muskies with five total blocks each.
Lakeland plays its third NAC match in four nights Friday when the Muskies host Dominican University at 7 p.m. as part of homecoming weekend.
