Muskies' season ends at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - Junior Josh Regal scored a team-high 15 points but the Lakeland College men's basketball team came up short in an 84-72 loss against Edgewood College in the quarterfinals of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament Wednesday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

The Muskies finish the season with an 11-6 record in NAC play and a 16-10 overall mark.

It was an up and down game for the Muskies and the Eagles as the lead changed 10 times throughout play. In the first-half Edgewood took an early lead, but the Muskies went on a mid- half 11-2 run to take a two point advantage at the 10 minutes, 56 seconds mark. In a span of nine minutes the scored tied five times, but junior Jack Ridgway (Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a 3-pointer just before half to give Lakeland a 35-34 advantage.

Lakeland went ice cold from the floor in the second-half and shot a mere 32.4 percent while the Eagles went hot and shot nearly 60 percent from the field.

"I have to give Edgewood a lot of credit," said Lakeland head coach Aaron Aanonsen. "They shot really well in the second half and when they missed, they got the offensive rebound.

"I thought we did a good job in the first 34 minutes. Unfortunately, Edgewood hit a couple of tough shots and we missed the front end on key free throws. Overall, we didn't do the things we needed to do to win the game tonight."

Edgewood went on an 8-2 run at the six minute mark to take a two-point lead, a lead it would never relinquish. The Eagles led by as many as 13 points to secure the quarterfinal victory.

Josh Regal (Suring, Wis.) ended the night with five assists to go along with his team-high 15 points. Ridgway added 14 points and went a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Freshman Justin Ward (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) chipped in 14 points and grabbed four rebounds

Kent Faurote led Edgewood with 25 points. The Eagles advance to the NAC semi-finals and take on No. 1 Concordia, Wis., Friday night.
