This past weekend, the Lakeland women's volleyball team took part in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic. Unfortunately, the weekend didn't go as the Muskies planned as they dropped their three pool-play matches and fell in their final game 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20) to Elmhurst College on Saturday to take eighth place at the Classic.

The downfall of the Muskies this weekend was their lack of focus and energy. Head coach Chad Schreiber said the team is capable of playing at a high level, but was disappointed that they haven't learned to maintain their focus for a whole match.

"We have proven that we can play at a high level," Schreiber said. "We just have to learn to sustain that focus and energy level throughout an entire match. Against the University of Chicago we played three solid games and just disappeared in the fourth. We've got some work to do."

The Muskies we led by their junior middle hitter Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.). Davis had a great individual tournament with a .228 hitting percentage to go along with four assists, 10 aces, 11 digs, five solo blocks and 10 block assists.

"Davis is playing at a high level right now," Schreiber said. "She carried our team this weekend. The team is treating her like a star and it is deserved. She has been our best player."

The Pizza Hut classic was the last competition for the Muskies before they begin conference play. Last season, the Muskies won the Northern Athletics Conference with a 10-2 record.

With improved individual effort and focus, the Muskies will look to improve on recent performances as they begin conference play Tuesday evening. Lakeland will travel to Milwaukee to play Alverno College at 7 p.m.
