The Lakeland College Women's Soccer team defeated Lake Michigan Conference rival Edgewood College 2-1 on Saturday at Breeze Stevens Stadium. Senior forward Amanda Smith (Neenah) scored a goal and assisted on the game winner to lead the way.
Smith scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute to put Lakeland up 1-0. Neither side would tally again in the first frame.
Edgewood forward Holly Elsberry scored in the 49th minute to draw even. The game would remain tied 1-1 until the 85th minute. That's when Smith found junior forward Ann Lehecka (McHenry, Illinois) with a great cross that Lehecka one-timed into the back of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin, WI) went the distance and tallied 6 saves including several spectacular stops. With the win the Muskies move to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in the LMC.
The Muskies are in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host LMC opponent Alverno College at 3 pm. This is Lakeland's last regular season game. With a win or tie, Lakeland will host the first round of the LMC Tournament on Friday.
