Jake Schwarz, a junior from Sheboygan on the Lakeland College men's basketball team, has been selected as an Honorable Mention All-American by The Sporting News in its annual College Basketball Preview Issue.
It's the first time since Lakeland switched from being an NAIA to NCAA Division III institution in 1997 that a member of the Muskies' men's basketball program has received this recognition.
Last season, Schwarz finished sixth in the nation in scoring with 23.1 points per game, he received first team All-Northern Athletics Conference and All-Midwest Region honors and was named the team's most valuable player.
Schwarz finished among conference leaders in rebounding (9.3 per game), field goal percentage (.539) and free throw percentage (.825). He suffered a season-ending knee injury 20 games into the regular season, but is expected to be fully recovered for this season.
"This is great recognition for Jake and our program," said Lakeland head coach Aaron Aanonsen. "Jake has been working hard getting himself physically ready for his junior year, and we're excited to start practice in just a few weeks."
