- ABOUT LAKELAND

Coming off its first win of the season, a 27-12 victory over Hope College, the Lakeland College football team received more good news as Tony Faller (Oostburg, Wis.), Roberto Flores (Milwaukee, Wis.), and Nic Horstmeier (Random Lake, Wis.) won Northern Athletics Conference student-athlete of the week honors.
Faller, a junior safety, was acknowledged for the second time this season, this time with a NAC defensive student-athlete of the week. On Saturday, he led Lakeland with six tackles, including one and a half for a loss. He also returned an interception for a 65-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, sealing the Muskie victory and ending a 16-game nonconference losing streak.
Flores, a senior wide receiver, won the offensive student-athlete of the week award. He was awarded for his second consecutive game with over 165 yards receiving. Against Hope, Flores continued his stellar season as he led Lakeland with 167 yards receiving on 10 catches, including a 36-yard snag - his longest of the season.
Horstmeier, a senior kicker/punter, won the special teams student-athlete of the week award. Horstmeier was solid against Hope as he helped the Muskies win the special teams battle with four punts inside the 20 and three extra points. Horstmeier punted six times averaging 35.8 yards with a long of 56 yards.
The Muskies open NAC play at Aurora (Ill.) University on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m.
