Errors, lack of offense cost Muskies

The Lakeland College baseball team lost its rescheduled doubleheader against Rockford College Thursday afternoon.
The Muskies (8-16, 3-9 NAC) lost game one, 9-2, and game two, 8-1, both as the home team while playing at Road Ranger Stadium in Loves Park, Ill.

Right-handed junior Garrett Vincetich-Morris (L, 1-2) (Janesville, Wis.) got the start in game one, but poor defense and a lack of production at the plate contributed to a 9-2 loss. Vincetich-Morris lasted 5.1 innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits walking four and striking out six. Freshman right-hander, Derek Loomans (Waupun, Wis.), finished the game, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

While Rockford scored nine runs on eight hits, it was a different story for Lakeland, who as no-hit for 6.1 innings by Rockford starter Adam Ketzner. The Muskies had just two base-runners in the first six innings, before scoring two runs on an Erik Kozey (Medford, Wis.) single, the only two runs Lakeland would score.
Senior catcher David Novak (Algoma, Wis.) led the Muskies at the plate, going 2-4 with one run scored.

Freshman right-hander Andrew Mueller (L, 2-1) (Horicon, Wis.) took a tough luck loss in game two, after scattering seven hits over six innings, allowing two runs while walking four and striking out one. Freshmen Charlie Sparrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Tim Green (Hager City, Wis.) finished the game, with sparrow throwing two innings and Green pitching the ninth. Sparrow allowed four runs three earned, on six hits and one walk while Green allowed two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Mueller did his best to keep his team in the game, but the offensive struggles continued for Lakeland, as they scattered 10 hits over nine innings but just couldn't put together a rally.

The Muskies lone run came in the eighth inning on a Matt Krueger (Medford, Wis.) RBI single, scoring Andrew "Woody" Schartner (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.).

Schartner, Novak, and David Cherney (Green Bay, Wis.) each went 2-4 to lead the Muskies.

Lakeland returns to action Saturday, April 23, when they travel to Wauwatosa, Wis. to face Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch is set for noon.
