The Lakeland men's volleyball team won its 2011 home-opener with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-22) victory over No. 12 UW-Whitewater in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference contest Tuesday night.

The Muskies (8-4 overall, 5-1 WVC) knew they would be tested tonight, but they stuck to the game plan and came away with the victory.

"We have a lot of respect for UW-Whitewater, they beat us at home last year and we knew it was going to be tough," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said. "We made a line-up adjustment to try and slow down their outsides and in the end it worked out for us."

Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in last week's poll, was led by sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.), who had 12 kill, three blocks, and an ace. Senior Beau Bradshaw (Oak Lawn, Ill.) added seven kills and a team-high six blocks, while freshman Brett Kaczmarek (Kenosha, Wis.) garnered nine kills. Senior setter Chris Kubacki had 26 assists to lead the Muskies.

Kaczmarek also led the defense with seven digs.

The Muskies return to action Thursday, Feb. 10, as they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face WVC opponent Marquette University. The match begins at 8 p.m.
