Muskies drop fifth straight

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Wednesday night, a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16) defeat by WVC foe UW-Whitewater.
The Muskies (10-11, 6-4) played well and were able to make adjustments throughout the match, but couldn't find a rhythm.
"We played pretty well but the service game prevented us from ever gaining momentum," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "We couldn't handle Whitewater's jump serves and missed too many of our own. I was pretty happy with some blocking adjustments because we had not shown the ability to do that to this point. Hopefully we start to build on some of the positive things as we get over some of the flaws that have been holding us back."
Lakeland was led offensively by sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.) who had 10 kills, as well as senior Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) who had a team-high 24 assists.
On defense, junior libero Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the way with 14 digs.
The Muskies return to the court Saturday, March 5, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take part in the Midwest-10 Championships. The schedule has yet to be announced.
