The Lakeland College men's volleyball team won its opening match at the Midwest 10 Championships on Saturday, a 2-0 (25-19, 25-18) victory over Iowa State.

The Muskies (11-11) played their best volleyball in an opening round match this season.

"The guys were motivated to come out and turn our recent troubles around," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "They did just that in playing a better first match of the day than any time in recent years."

On offense, the Muskies were led by freshman Brett Kaczmarek (Kenosha, Wis.) who have seven kills while junior Jared Sparrey (Oak Forest, Ill.) added six kills with a .555 hitting percentage.

The team had a solid defensive performance, totaling 17 blocks in the match.

The Muskies return to action Friday, March 11, as they play their postponed match against WVC foe UW-La Crosse. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
