Raiders hand Muskies second loss in January

MILWAUKEE- Junior Jack Ridgway scored a team-high 14 points, but the Lakeland College men's basketball team came up short in a 74-65 setback to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup Saturday evening at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.

The Muskies (11-8, 6-5 NAC) trailed the Raiders for the majority of the game and went down by as many as 13 points in the second half of the game. Lakeland's only lead came at the 7:51 mark in the first half when junior guard Josh Regal (Suring, Wis.) hit a 3-pointer to go up by three.

MSOE went on a 5-0 run late in the first half to take a 32-25 advantage heading into the locker room. Deacon Bennett led MSOE with 21 points and three rebounds to secure the conference win.

In the second half, Lakeland made an early push and cut the lead to two points, but turnovers and missed opportunities cost the Muskies late in the game.

Head coach Aaron Aanonsen was disappointed with the loss.

"MSOE is a good basketball team," said Aanonsen. "We got out rebounded and out hustled, which is disappointing because if we did the right things we could have won tonight. We didn't play well enough to win and couldn't maximize on our opportunities to take control of the game."

Freshmen Justin Ward (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and Tal Diekvoss (Beaver Dam, Wis.) posted nine points each. Junior guard Bobby Komorowski (Germantown, Wis.) also added nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Regal ended the game with nine points and eight assists.

Lakeland shot a mere 52.6 percent from the charity stripe, while shooting 41.8 percent from the field. The hot-shooting Raiders posted 48 percent from the field and 71.9 percent from the free throw line.

Lakeland returns to NAC action as they host Edgewood College on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gym.
