Lakeland men's basketball team picks up forfeit conference victory

Athletics - posted on 2/15/2011

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's basketball team has forfeited its Northern Athletics Conference victory over Lakeland from November 23 of this season for using an ineligible player during the contest, the conference ruled today.

The Cougars, who originally defeated visiting Lakeland, 68-67 in overtime, may also have to forfeit a number of nonconference games from this season pending the NCAA's ruling.

Lakeland -- which has secured the No. 3 seed in the North Division -- improves to 9-6 in NAC play with the forfeit win. The loss changes CUC's conference record to 5-9 with two NAC games remaining.

The change in result will not affect Lakeland's position in the standings, but tightens the race for the final NAC tournament spot in the South Division. Rockford (6-9 NAC) plays at Concordia Chicago tonight in its final conference game, and would secure the final tournament spot from the South Division with a victory.
