Lakeland winless at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Lakeland College softball team suffered a two-game setback in nonconference action against Carroll University Thursday afternoon at Jean Kilgour Field.

The Muskies (7-19, 7-5) lost game one in five innings, 12-2, and made a late rally in the second game, but it wasn't enough as they suffered a 6-4 loss.

Errors cost the Muskies in game one and they struggled to find a rhythm at the plate. Freshman Samm Janc (Worth, Ill.) led Lakeland with a double and two RBIs while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Janc's double scored junior Leah Sheahan (Salem, Wis.) and freshman Chelsea Gile (Grand Junction, Mich.) in the fourth inning.

The Pioneers grabbed an early 12-0 lead in the third inning and never relinquished their lead.

Head coach Chad Buchmann was disappointed with the team's overall showing.

"We need to find a way to get off the bus and win," said Buchmann. "Errors hurt us in game one and it was hard for us to get back on top after Carroll jumped on us."

In game two, the Muskies found themselves in the same position as the Pioneers took another early lead in the first two innings. Lakeland tied the game at four in the sixth inning, but gave up two runs in the seventh.

Sophomore Megan Olson (Stoughton, Wis.) had a stand out game as she hit a double to go along with two RBIs. Freshman Brittany Jurek (Gladstone, Mich.) scored one run while going 2-for-3 from the plate.

"We never could really get back into the game," said Buchmann. "In game two we played better, but we have to come ready to play for both games."

Lakeland returns to action on Friday, April 22, as they host Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Muskie Field.
