Lakeland Track and Field preview: Muskies looks to surprise and grow
Athletics - posted on 2/25/2011
After a two-year absence, Lakeland College track and field coach Peter Hahm has assembled a talented team to compete in a full indoor and outdoor schedule. Hahm hopes the Muskies can be a competitive team and find some success that will allow the program to grow.
"This is a big step for our program and is something we want to build on," said Hahm. "I want our athletes to go out and be competitive. I want us to grow as a team and as individuals and for us to learn how to compete for a NAC championship."
The Muskies have two athletes who have competed in the NAC before, senior Isaiah Calhoun and junior Joey Salazar. Calhoun returns to the track after missing last season with a torn ACL. Hahm thinks Calhoun has the ability to do special things this season in the 55-meter dash and the 200- and 400-meter runs.
The Muskies' season continues at the NAC Indoor Championship on Feb. 26 at a new site, North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Lakeland competes at three events hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wis. On April 2, Lakeland will compete at the WLC Invitational, followed by the WLC Relays Outdoor Invitation on April 16 and the Private Colleges of Wisconsin Championships at WLC on April 30. The NAC Outdoor Championship will be hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., on May 6-7.
