Muskies lose to NIU in Midwest 10 Championships

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team was knocked out in the first round of bracket play at the Midwest 10 Championships on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 (25-22, 20-25, 15-8) loss to host, Northern Illinois University.
The Muskies (12-12) just couldn't find their rhythm in their third consecutive match, leaving DeKalb, Ill. a little earlier than anticipated.
"We never got on track in the first game and lost a game that was there for the taking," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "The second game we hit on all cylinders and ran away with it early, but the third game was a mess. NIU put pressure on early and seemed to make every play in transition to blow us out. It was an unfortunate end to an otherwise good day. We have a lot more positives to take from today than we do disappointments. This was an effort and performance to build on."
Freshman Brett Kaczmarek (Kenosha, Wis.) led the Muskies on offense with 11 kills.
On defense, junior Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the team with 11 digs. The team put up an impressive 15 total blocks in the match, including 13 in game two.
The Muskies return to action Friday, March 11, as they play their postponed match against WVC foe UW-La Crosse. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
