Calhoun invited to NFL National ELITE Combine

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Senior cornerback Isiah Calhoun has been selected to participate in the NFL National ELITE Combine in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Lucas Oil Stadium on April 15-16, 2011.

The Pontiac, Mich., native was one of 14 players to advance out of the Regional Combine at the Players Indoor Sports Center in Naperville, Ill., on March 12.

Calhoun looks forward to the opportunity as he tries to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL.

"It's been a lifelong dream," said Calhoun. "Growing up it was something I've always wanted to do, and coming to a small college in Wisconsin, most people would give up on that dream, but not me.

"This is something I want to do for everyone who has a dream. People always told me to be realistic and that I couldn't make it, but I didn't listen to them and kept working hard. I want people to look up to me and say, 'Isiah did it. He had a dream and stuck with it.' "

Lakeland defensive coordinator Colin Bruton is excited about Calhoun's opportunity.

"It's a tremendous honor for the program to have one of our guys considered as a prospect for that level," said Bruton. "It's an example for our younger players about the values of working hard both during the season and in the off season."

Calhoun was a first-team All-Northern Athletics Conference selection in 2010 and is graduating with a sociology degree from Lakeland in May.
