The Lakeland College men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Aurora University in Northern Athletics Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans were able to take advantage of two Lakeland defensive lapses in the first half. Aurora struck first at the 39:23 mark and again at the 39:39 mark to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Muskies (5-6-3, 3-3-2 NAC) couldn't capitalize on a couple of scoring opportunities in both halves of play. Senior forward Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.) led Lakeland with five shots.
"I thought up until we gave up the goals that we had control of the game," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We had our chances, but Aurora punished us for our mistakes in the back and it was a hole we couldn't dig ourselves out of."
Junior goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha) registered six saves for the game.
Lakeland returns to action on Oct. 19 as they travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the Raiders of MSOE. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Uihlein.
