Seniors Joey Salazar and Ben Koepsell scored two late goals to lead the Muskies' rally, but the Lakeland College men's soccer team came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday night at Uihlein Soccer Park.
After being down three goals at halftime, Salazar (Beaver Dam) started the Muskies' rally in the 77th minute of action after he drilled the ball past the Raiders' goalkeeper from half field. Koepsell (Cedar Grove) added to the mix in the 84th minute to make it a 3-2 game.
Unfortunately for the Muskies (5-7-3, 3-4-2 NAC) they couldn't capitalize on a few late scoring opportunities and suffered the Northern Athletics Conference loss.
"We had some good looks to get the third goal and tie it up late in the game," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We came up a little short tonight and our first half defensive lapses really hurt us. It was a nail biter and we showed periods of our capabilities, but unfortunately we didn't get the result we wanted."
Junior goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha) recorded seven saves.
The Muskies return to NAC action on Oct. 22 as they host Wisconsin Lutheran College on senior and parent's day. Game time is slated for noon.
