The Lakeland College women's soccer dropped its home and season opener to St. Norbert College 6-0 on a hot, humid afternoon at Muskie Field.
The Muskies haven't won a season opener since 2008 when the team beat Northland Baptist, 5-0.
Lakeland (0-1) got off to a slow start as the Green Knights were quick to score on a young Lakeland defense, netting goals in the sixth and 16th minutes. St. Norbert would score again in the 22nd and 25th minutes to lead 4-0 at halftime.
The Muskies came alive in the second half and got behind St. Norbert's defense, but came up short with a result. Senior midfielder Kristi Borts recorded five shots, while senior forward Lindsay Rogers posted two.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sarbacker recorded 20 saves and saved a penalty kick in the second half. St. Norbert outshot Lakeland 26-5.
The Muskies return to action tomorrow at 1 pm in a nonconference match against Martin Luther College.
