Muskies fall to Red Hawks

Athletics - posted on 9/14/2011

The Lakeland College women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to Ripon College in nonconference action Wednesday afternoon in Ripon, Wis.

The Muskies (2-3) got behind the Red Hawk's defense in the first half as senior midfielder Kristi Borts (Milwaukee) scored to give Lakeland the lead. Ripon answered Lakeland twice in the first half to take a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Senior forward Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan) tied the game at two just into the start of the second half. Rogers capped her fifth goal this season, but it wasn't enough for the Muskies as Ripon scored three goals in the remaining half to win the game.

Head coach Tony Pierce thought the team played well when they found a rhythm.

"We got away from what was going right for us," said Pierce. "We tied the game at two at the start of the second half and then everything stopped going our way. Ripon finished good shots and we never recovered. We were very good when we strung passes together, but we didn't do that enough."

Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference action on Sept. 17 as they travel to Rockford College. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the SportsCore 2 in Rockford, Ill.

Stats will be available tomorrow.
