The Lakeland College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to rival Marian University in Northern Athletics Conference action Tuesday afternoon in Fond du Lac, Wis.
The Muskies (3-9, 2-4 NAC) were attacked from the start of the game as the Sabres capped their first goal at the 10:03 mark. Marian struck again just five minutes later with both goals coming off crosses inside Lakeland's 18-yard box. At the 26:44 mark, Marian capitalized again, this time on a header inside the six-yard box to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Early in the second half, the Sabres knocked in another goal to take a convincing 4-0 lead. Lakeland struggled to put an offensive attack together as they were outshot 25-9.
"Marian knocked the ball around well," said head coach Tony Pierce. "Marian has good speed on the outside and they were able to effectively put the ball across our box. When they did that, we lost our marks and that cost us three goals. In the second half we played better from the defensive side of things, but we couldn't put an attack together."
Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Streeter (Oakfield, Wis.) recorded nine saves in her third game in front of the nets.
The Muskies return to NAC action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as they host Dominican University at 3 p.m.
