- ABOUT LAKELAND

The Lakeland College baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies (8-18, 3-11 NAC) have now lost five straight, falling 12-4 in game one and 8-7 in game two at Neumann Family Field.
In game one Muskie junior right-hander Mike Ruzek (L, 1-3) (Manitowoc, Wis.) was roughed up for eight runs, six earned over seven innings, allowing 10 hits, walking four and striking out five. Junior righty Erik Kozey (Medford, Wis.) was also touché dup for four runs, three earned in one inning of work, allowing four hits and walking one batter.
Lakeland hit the ball well, tallying 14 hits, but couldn't get the big one, as they only scored four runs. The biggest outburst was in the top of the sixth, when the Muskies strung together four straight hits, including RBI singles from Ruzek and Anthony Lutz (Neenah, Wis.). A double play would end the rally, as the offense continued to struggle scoring runs.
Andrew "Woody" Schartner (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), David Novak (Algoma, Wis.), Ruzek, Kozey, and Lutz all had two hits each to lead the Lakeland offense.
In game two senior right=hander Matt Katzman (Sauk Prairie, Wis.) pitched a solid game, but couldn't get the offensive support he needed. Katzman pitched eight innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on 11 hits, walking one and striking out three. Schartner (L, 0-3) pitched in relief and took the loss, giving up one run on three hits while allowing a walk.
The Muskie bats came to life in the second game, scoring three runs on two hits, a Ruzek RBi single and Kozey RBI double gave the Muskies the early lead.
Lakeland would hold a 4-3 lead until the Warriors scored in both the seventh and eighth, taking a 5-3 advantage.
The Muskies would again answer on offense, scoring three runs without recording a hit in the ninth. A wild pitch and two sacrifice flies by Ruzek and Novak contributed to the Lakeland scoring, giving the Muskies a 7-5 lead.
After back-to-back singles, Katzman was removed for Schartner who allowed a two RBI double and a bases loaded single, giving the Warriors an 8-7 win.
At the plate, Lakeland was led by Ruzek, who went 2-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Lakeland returns to action Monday, April 25 as they host NAC foe Concordia University, Wisconsin. First pitch is set for Noon.
