LISLE, Ill. - The Lakeland College softball team dropped its last regular season Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader to first-place Benedictine University Monday night at the Sports Complex.

Lakeland went scoreless in a 7-0 loss in game one and dropped game two, 7-4. Despite the setback, the Muskies (14-24, 14-10 NAC) clinched the No. 5 spot in the 2011 NAC Tournament on May 5-7.

In game one, Benedictine took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and scored in the third, fourth and sixth innings to showcase its dominance in the NAC.

Lakeland struggled at the plate and only strung together three hits behind Benedictine's ace pitcher Brittany Adcox. Sophomore Jenny LaLuzerne (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) led the team with a double.

The Muskies came alive in game two as they took a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Junior Leah Sheahan (Salem, Wis.) got things started as she singled and was batted in by sophomore Erin Henk (Hoopeston, Ill.) on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Megan Olson (Stoughton, Wis.) had a break-through game as she doubled to bring home two runs. Olson ended the night a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate.

Lakeland's lead would be short lived as The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning to tie the game at four. They secured the win in the sixth inning, scoring two more runs.

Freshman Chelsea Gile (Grand Junction, Mich.) and LaLuzerne hit a triple, while freshman Samm Janc (Worth, Ill.) posted a double and one run.

Lakeland returns to action on Thursday, May 5, as they take on Dominican University in the 2011 NAC Tournament. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
