Junior Ryan Renon and sophomore Tom Phalin placed first at the 165-pound weight class and at 285, respectively to lead the Lakeland College wrestling team at the first annual Muskie Invite Saturday.
The Muskies hosted three top 25 teams including, No. 11 North Central College, No. 19 University of Wisconsin Stevens Points and No. 24 University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh.
Renon, who is ranked eighth in the nation, tallied his third victory of the year after earning a 19-2 technical fall over Bill Langford of UW-Stevens Point, who he also tech falled on Nov. 8, in round one. Renon (Wrightstown) stayed unbeaten on the year after he pinned Jason Bonham of North Central in 4:25 in the championship match.
Phalin (Sheboygan) won his first-ever tournament after he pinned Charles Wessberg of the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh in 6:34. Phalin also had the 10-5 decision over Wessberg in round one.
Senior Robby Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) lost in the opening round to the eventual 149 runner-up, but battled his way back for a third place finish. Frias recorded a 5-2 decision over Blake Olson of North Central in the third-place match.
Sophomore Brent Steudel (Hortonville) also claimed a third-place finish at 157 as he had the 8-5 decision over Hinze Jordan of UW-Oshkosh.
Also earning victories for Lakeland were sophomore Grant Franson (Lindenhurst, Ill.) and freshmen Eduardo Orihuela (Brookfield, Ill) and David Castro (Manville, N.J.).
Franson pinned Ryan Osse of UW-Stevens Point in 6:27, but fell to Jordan Poirier from Stevens Point in a 10-3 decision. Orihuela had the 16-10 decision over Nicholas Reddy of North Central and Castro earned a 16-13 decision over Kyle McKearn of UW-Oshkosh.

The Muskies return to the mats on Nov. 18 as they host Concordia University Nebraska at Sheboygan Falls High School for a 7 p.m. dual.
