Muskies earn first victory in Tucson

Sophomore Chelsea Gile went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Lakeland College softball team to an 8-1 win over Nazareth College in game three of the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.

The Muskies (1-2) played with only 10 players as sicknesses and an injury struck the young team. Juniors Heather Haeflinger, McKenna Wenzel and pitcher Erin Henk led the Muskies to their first victory of the season. Haeflinger went 2-for-5 at the plate and recorded a stolen base.

On the mound, Henk recorded six strikeouts as Lakeland held Nazareth to just one run scored.

The Muskies return to action tomorrow as they get another chance against the University of Dubuque. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. CST. Lakeland also plays Dickinson College at the Tucson Invitational tomorrow in a 3:30 p.m. game.
