Freshman Kaitlyn Hoffmann hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning of game two to lead the Lakeland College softball team to a sweep of Alverno College in the team's home and Northern Athletics Conference opener. 
The Muskies (5-7, 2-0 NAC) controlled the majority of both games and earned their first shutout of the season in a 4-0 decision in game one. Lakeland's offense came alive in game two, as it earned a 9-4 win behind 16 hits and nine RBIs.
Junior pitcher Erin Henk had a strong showing on the mound as she recorded four strikeouts while only giving up three hits in game one. Henk earned a three-inning save in game two after relieving freshman pitcher Elizabeth Zimmerman in the fourth inning. Zimmerman got the win in game two and increased to season record to 3-1.
The Muskies blew a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning in game two, but quickly responded with a seven-run inning of their own to take control of the game. Hoffmann's three-run home run powered the Muskies in the conference win.
Sophomore Chelsea Gile went 3-for-4 with two runs and RBIs, while junior Heather Haeflinger went 2-for-4 with one run and RBI.
