RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Junior Jenny LaLuzerne hit a grand slam to help the Lakeland College softball team snap a three-game losing streak in a split with Concordia University Chicago in Northern Athletics Conference action Sunday afternoon.

The Muskies (17-13, 12-6 NAC) dropped game one 8-7, but came out swinging in a lopsided 12-2 win in game two.

After four scoreless innings in game one, Lakeland took a 2-0 lead, but the Cougars answered with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Muskies regained the lead in the sixth, but Concordia Chicago answered once more to earn the NAC win.

Head coach Chad Buchmann was disappointed with the team's efforts in game one. "Poor base running the entire game and a couple of errors cost us," said Buchmann. "We weren't able to step up and make the play when we needed to."

After a mental lapse in game one, the Muskies used a seven-run first inning to reclaim their position in the NAC. Lakeland homered three times in the five inning game, led by LaLuzerne's grand slam. Sophomore Sammy Rieder chipped in with a three-run homer, while junior McKenna Wenzel hit a solo home run in the fifth inning as Lakeland imposed its will.

LaLuzerne led Lakeland at the plate going 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Rieder finished the game with four RBIs and two hits to lead Lakeland's campaign.

Lakeland posted 12 RBIs and 13 hits while holding the Cougars to six hits. Junior Erin Henk split the series and increased her season record to 12-6.

The Muskies finish their three-game road trip on April 25 at Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. in Milwaukee.
