DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Lakeland College men's basketball team turned up the offense in the final 10 minutes Friday night, but host Defiance College hung on for an 88-87 win. Logan Wolfrum hit a free throw with .2 on the clock to secure the title for the hosts in the 37th annual Purple & Gold Tournament at Defiance.

Trailing 60-48 with 13:11 to play, the Muskies (6-3), who had struggled on offense to that point, found their touch and erupted for 39 points to finish out the game. Junior Jake Schwarz scored 26 of his 34 points in the second half. Schwarz was named to the all-tournament team.

Schwarz finished 17-for-17 at the free throw line Friday night, and was 20-for-22 in the two-day tournament. He set tournament records for free throws made in a game and a tournament, and tied tournament records for free throws attempted in a game and a tournament.

Lakeland led 86-78 with 2:46 to play and it was Defiance's turn to come back. A Wolfrum 3-pointer tied the game at 87 with 1:13 left.

The Muskies shot just 28 percent in the first half, but made it a game thanks to 57 percent shooting in the second half, hitting 17 of their 30 attempts.

Sophomore James Oshkeshequoam scored 17 points for the Muskies, while senior Josh Regal added 13 and sophomore Justin Ward had 11.
