Muskies drop two on day one of Pizza Hut Classic

Athletics - posted on 9/9/2011

The Lakeland College women's volleyball team lost both of its matches on the first day of the Pizza Hut Classic in Oshkosh, Wis.

In match number one, the Muskies (0-6) lost in five games, 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 28-15, 13-15) to the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

"We struggled passing, but were still in the game," said Lakeland head coach Jon Staabs. "We just continue to struggle serving and need to work on being more consistent. Our effort and communication were much improved, but we continue to struggle in close matches."

In their second match, the Muskies fell to Lawrence University, 3-2 (25-19, 25-24, 19-15, 21-25, 10-15).

"We had the third game won, we just couldn't make a competitive serve," said Staabs. "We missed 22 serves and gave them 15 aces in five games. You can't win a match when you give the opposition 37 points. We should've won both matches tonight."

Lakeland had two bright spots on the night in sophomores Brittany Reindl (Kenosha, Wis.) and Tess Myklebust (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.). Reindl, the team's setter, recorded 97 assists in the two matches while Myklebust amassed 50 digs.

The Muskies will look to right the ship as they continue play in the Pizza Hut Classic tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against the No. 23 University of Chicago.

Stats will be posted Saturday night following the conclusion of the Pizza Hut Classic.
