Benson converts on PK to lift Muskies past UW-Oshkosh

Senior Adam Benson capitalized on a penalty kick in the 885th minute to give the Lakeland College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

The Titans scored at the 13:14 mark to take a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Muskies (7-7-3, 4-4-2 NAC) answered just before the half expired when sophomore Farouk Dadzie (Milwaukee) headed in a goal from senior Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.) to tie the game at one.

After a tough, physical second half, Dadzie drew a foul inside the 18-yard box to give Benson (Anoka, Minn.) the opportunity to take the game. Benson converted on the penalty kick in the upper right 90 to lift the team past the Titans. UW-Oshkosh was a semi-finalist at the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship in San Antonio, Texas.

"It was a great effort against a very good team today," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We were a little nervous heading into today's game after yesterday's win, but we stayed focused and kept to our game plan. This is a huge win for the program and hopefully we can carry to momentum onto Tuesday's game against Marian."
