The Lakeland women's volleyball team has been picked to finish 10th by Northern Athletics Conference coaches in the NAC preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday morning.
The Muskies, who received 61 points, are coming off a disappointing 2010 campaign which saw them finish 4-8 in the conference, good for a ninth-place tie, and 8-23 overall.
Interim head coach Jon Staabs will look to have a bounce back season, led by senior middle hitter Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.).
"We were one game away from the tournament last season with five freshman starters," said Staabs. "We lost several games last season after getting to 20 points and not knowing how to close. We are more confident and experienced this season, and I feel we have the talent to be a top five team in the NAC."
Dominican University was picked to finish first, receiving 163 points and seven first-place votes. Concordia University Wisconsin and Edgewood College were picked in a tie for second and each received first-place votes.
Lakeland opens its season against St. Norbert College at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite on Sept. 2-3.
