The Lakeland College men's golf team heads to Whistling Straits this weekend to take part in the Northern Athletics Conference championships.
The Muskies will look to finish an impressive season with a strong showing at the event, which closes out the fall season.
Lakeland finished no lower than seventh throughout the year, including an impressive second-place finish at the Marian Invitational on Sept. 12. The Muskies finished fifth at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invite on Sep. 26, sixth at the Loras Invitational to open the season on Sept. 6 and seventh in the Benedictine Fall Invite on Sept. 18.
Lakeland has been led by senior Brian Balistierri (New Berlin, Wis.), who has placed in the top 10 in three of the Muskies four events this season. Balistierri finished tied for third at 14 over at the Marian Invite, tied for sixth at three over at the Benedictine Invite, and tied for sixth at nine over at the WLC Invite.
Fellow senior Ben Laubusch (Germantown, Wis.) had a solid season as well, finishing in the top 10 twice. He tied for third at the Marian Invite and tied for sixth at the Benedictine Invite. Freshman Ryan Newburry (Campbellsport, Wis.) finished tied for ninth at the WLC Invite to contribute to the teams impressive finish.
The Muskies will look to improve on last year's conference showing after finishing tied for third in the fall tournament and fifth following the spring championships. With a talented group from top to bottom, Lakeland looks poised to make a run at the conference title.
Following the fall NAC Championships, the Muskies will return to action in the spring and compete for the conference's automatic qualifier in April.
