The Lakeland Muskies fell in conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Concordia 3-2. The Muskies lost the first game 30-26, the third game 30-13 and the fifth game 15-12, while winning the second game 30-20 and the fourth game 30-27. The loss marks only the third time that the Muskies have lost in almost three years in conference. The two previous conference losses were on Sept. 25, 2001 at Marian (3-1) and on October 16, 2004 to Wisconsin Lutheran College (3-0) on a neutral court in Watertown. During the match the Muskies only hit .88% and missed 13 serves.
"There is a difference between getting beat and losing and we lost tonight," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "Concordia is a good defensive team that threw a lot of balls back at us, but we could not stop making mistakes in almost every area of our game. I hope this is a one match aberration because this was the worst volleyball we've played in the last 5 years."
The Muskies are in the midst of the nine game road swing and will next be in action at Maranatha Baptist on Friday, Sept. 16 for another LMC match. They will return home on Sept. 27 to face Alverno at 7p.m. in an LMC match.
