The Lakeland Muskies volleyball team vaulted head coach Chad Schreiber to his 201st collegiate career victory on Friday, Sept. 30 in a triangular at MSOE. The Muskies defeated MSOE 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-16) to give Schreiber his 200th career victory. Later in the evening the Muskies defeated Dominican 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-23) as well to net Schreiber is 201st victory.
"Our serving was our best weapon tonight," said Schreiber. "It was aggressive and accurate. Our court chemistry was a little better, but I'm still hoping we have a second gear. We are going to need in it for many of our remaining matches."
In the first match against MSOE the Muskies relied on seniors Heather Heberlein and Sarah Buechel. Heberlein recorded 12 kills, a .417 hitting percentage and two blocks, while Buechel notched 15 digs and three aces in the match. Freshman setter Jessica Sparling also played a vital role as she registered 30 assists, seven kills, a .583 hitting percentage and five digs.
In the second match of the evening against Dominican the Muskies looked to another set of three players to help carry them to victory. Sophomore Ashley Domask recorded 13 kills, a .455 hitting percentage and eight digs for the Muskies. Seniors Lana Neuman and Danielle Duranceau helped set the tone in the second match as well. Duranceau tallied 10 kills, .471 hitting percentage, five digs and three aces, while fellow senior Neuman netted 46 assists and 13 digs.
The Muskies host a triangular match against Marian and Concordia on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the brand new Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium starting at 11 a.m. In addition, the Muskies will be playing an alumni match later in the evening.
