- ABOUT LAKELAND

The Lakeland College baseball team held its first practices of 2012 this week.
Former assistant coach and player for the Muskies, Michael Bachar, takes over as head coach this season and will look to lead Lakeland back to the conference tournament for the first time since the 2006 season.
Bachar takes over a program that finished 16-19 overall, 11-11 in the Northern Athletics Conference in 2011. While the team struggled early on, the Muskies finished the 2011 campaign winning their final eight conference games, momentum that Bachar hopes will carry over this season.
Lakeland returns All-NAC honorable mention Mike Ruzek, a senior utility player who the Muskies expect to be their ace in the rotation. Ruzek led the Muskies in hitting in 2011 with a .402 batting average, scoring 19 runs, recording 45 hits, eight doubles and collecting 24 runs batted in. On the mound Ruzek went 2-3 with a 4.15 era, and moved into third all-time in shutouts (four) and fourth in strikeouts (144) in his career.
