Inconsistency plagues Muskies in pool play

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team saw its chances of a national championship slip away on day one of the 2012 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships in Kansas City, Mo. on Thursday afternoon.

The Muskies lost all three of their pool play matches, relegating Lakeland to the consolation flight, which will determine whether the Muskies compete in the silver or bronze bracket.

In their first match, Lakeland lost to the University of Arizona, 2-0 (24-26, 22-25). Brett Kaczmareck (Kenosha, Wis.) led the Muskies with 10 kills while Dayton Erickson (Trevor, Wis.) tallied 23 assists in the loss.

In their second match of the day, the Muskies fell to San Jose State, 2-0 (23-25, 23-25). Kaczmareck and Alec Redlich (Wauwatosa, Wis.) each had seven kills in the loss. "Errors were the story of the match," said Lakeland head coach Joe Julkowski. "We also failed to serve receive consistently and therefore we couldn't get in system."

The Muskies failed to salvage a game, falling to UC-Santa Barbara in their third match, 2-0 (23-25, 26-28). "We had no consistency today," said Julkowski. "We are still young and our inexperience showed a lot today."

Lakeland will return to the court tomorrow morning, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
