SHEBOYGAN - St. Norbert College scored seven goals in a 19-minute span to blow the game open and defeat the Lakeland College women's soccer team 10-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Green Knights got four goals from Katie Vanden Avond and defeated the Muskies in the season opener for both teams. St. Norbert dominated possession throughout the game, outshooting Lakeland 30-4 while scoring all 10 of its goals in the game's first 55 minutes.
St. Norbert's scoring outburst began late in the first half. With the Green Knights already leading 3-1, Vanden Avond scored twice in 1:20, and Kaitlyn Mailliet added a goal in the 42nd minute to make it 6-1 at halftime.
Vanden Avond added a third goal just 35 seconds into the second half, and St. Norbert would soon score three more goals in a span of 1:54. Kaitlyn Schmitz scored the final SNC goal at 54:12 of the match to make it 10-1.
Erin Regner (So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored for Lakeland in the first half on an assist from Hannah Landgraf (Sr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) that at the time made the score 2-1 in the 24th minute. The Muskies added a second goal at 74:22 on a goal by Taylor Jahnke (So.-Howards Grove, Wis.) assisted by Jamie Meixensperger (So.-Fond du Lac, Wis.).
Brittni Peterson (So.-Elmwood, Wis.) went the whole way in goal for the Muskies and made eight saves. Sarah Platzer made both of the saves in goal for St. Norbert.
Lakeland plays again Sunday when it hosts Ripon College at 1 p.m. at the Lakeland Soccer Field.
