Warriors double up Muskie soccer teams

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College shut out the Lakeland College men's and women's soccer teams in a pair of Northern Athletics Conference matches Saturday afternoon.

The Lakeland women were defeated 7-0 in the first match of the day, while the Muskie men lost 3-0 to Wisconsin Lutheran in the second game. Both teams continued to struggle in conference play, with the women's team dropping to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in the NAC and the men now at 2-13-2 overall and 0-8-2 in conference.

The Wisconsin Lutheran women (7-7-3 overall, 4-5-1 NAC) scored three times in the first half, including twice in a span of 2:24 to open the scoring. The Warriors added four goals in the second half, including two in the final five minutes.

Ali Thompson (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) made 10 saves in goal for Lakeland, which was outshot 24-6. Maggie Smith scored three goals to lead the Warriors, who held a 17-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The Muskie men also were done in by two quick goals early in the first half. The Warriors (11-6 overall, 6-3 NAC) scored twice in 1:24, with the second goal coming at the 18:16 mark. WLC added a final goal in the 74th minute.

Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) made 10 saves in goal. Wisconsin Lutheran outshot Lakeland 19-7 for the match.

The Muskie men are back in action Sunday when they travel to face the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. for a non-conference match. The Lakeland women are at Edgewood College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for their NAC finale, and then host Cornell (Iowa) College in a non-conference match Thursday that has been moved to Lakeland.
