Sato's late goal helps Muskie men save tie at Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, ILL. - Daiki Sato (Jr.-Matsudo-shi, Japan) scored with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the match and the Lakeland College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Conference match Saturday afternoon.

Sato, a newcomer to the squad who made his debut on Sept. 15 against Rockford (Ill.) College, scored unassisted at 89:42 of the match as Lakeland tied for the second time in NAC play, moving to 2-6-2 overall and 0-2-2 in conference. Concordia is now 1-7-2 overall, including 1-2-2 in the NAC.

The match's lone other goal came 1:32 into the second half when DeAndre McLaurin scored unassisted for the Cougars. Lakeland outshot Concordia 31-23 in the match, including a 14-10 advantage in shots on goal.

Daiya Akiyama (Sr.-Ichihara, Japan) led the Muskies offensively with 11 shots, including five on goal. Killian McKenzie (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis.) added six shots off, including two on goal in his first match back after breaking his nose a week ago against Benedictine (Ill.) University.

Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) made eight saves in goal for Lakeland. Jorge Guzman made 13 saves in 110 minutes for Concordia.

The Muskies are back home Tuesday to face Concordia University Wisconsin at 4 p.m. at the Lakeland soccer field.
