Dominican easily handles Lakeland soccer teams

RIVER FOREST, ILL. - Saturday was a tough day for the Lakeland College men's and women's soccer teams as Dominican (Ill.) University pitched a pair of shutouts in Northern Athletics Conference matches.

The Lakeland men were defeated 10-0 by Dominican, ranked 12th nationally in the NSCAA Coaches' NCAA Division III poll and 1st in the Division III Central Region. The Muskie women also were defeated 5-0 by the Stars in the second match of the doubleheader.

Ryan Roberts and Carmelo DiFranco both had hat tricks for Dominican in the men's match. The Stars scored four times in the first half and then tallied six times in the second half.

Dominican (9-1-1 overall, 6-0 NAC) outshot Lakeland 31-2. Farouk Dadzie (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and Daiki Sato (Jr.-Matsudo, Japan) fired the two shots for the Muskies (2-8-2 overall, 0-4-2 NAC), while Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) made 10 saves in goal.

The Muskie women also were shut out as the Stars scored three times in the second half to pull away. Taylor Adler scored twice for Dominican, and Lakeland added to its own troubles with an own goal in the 68th minute, deflecting a corner kick into its own net.

Ali Thompson (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) was busy, making 12 saves in goal. Dominican outshot Lakeland 28-1, with Hannah Landgraf (Sr.-Elkart Lake, Wis.) generating the Muskies' lone shot in the second half. The Muskies dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the NAC, while Dominican is now 7-6 overall and 6-2 in conference.

The Lakeland men face another tough foe on Monday when they travel to face the University of Chicago at 4 p.m. The Muskie women are home for their next match Tuesday against Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 4 p.m.
