CHICAGO - The University of Chicago used a second half outburst to shake free of the Lakeland College men's soccer team and defeat the Muskies 5-0 Monday afternoon in a non-conference match.

The Maroons scored four goals in the second half, including three in a 6 1/2 minute span, to put the match away and extend Lakeland's winless streak to eight matches. The Muskies are now 2-9-2 overall on the season, while Chicago improved to 6-2-3 overall.

The Muskies stayed in contact in the first half despite being outshot 14-5. Chicago scored its lone goal of the half in the 16th minute when Matt Vecchitto scored with an assist from Peter Boxley to make it 1-0.

The Maroons completely dominated the second half, outshooting Lakeland 17-0. Chicago began to pull away when Boxley scored at 62:17, tapping in a pass across the goal from Danny Hahn. The hosts then scored twice in 72 seconds, with Jorge Bilbao tallying at 67:21 and Boxley scoring again at 68:33, with Hahn assisting both goals as well.

Chicago tacked on a final goal with 19 seconds left in the match as Nick Hollenkamp took a pass through the defense by Boxley and popped it up over Lakeland keeper Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) for the final margin.

Piekarski made six saves in goal for the Muskies. Daiya Akiyama (Sr.-Ichihara, Japan) took two of the Muskies' five shots to lead the team offensively.

Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference play Thursday when it hosts Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 4 p.m.
