Lakeland Men fall 4-1 to Concordia
Athletics - posted on 10/16/2004
On a cold and blustery day the Lakeland College Men’s Soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Falcons of Concordia. The loss drops Lakeland’s overall record to 6-9-1 and 2-2 in the Lake Michigan Conference.
The Muskies played a smart tactical game in the first half limiting Concordia to few scoring chances. Neither side was able to put one away as they went into halftime scoreless.
In the 60th minute, Lakeland forward Zach Buchman hit the cross bar on a 15 yard laser of a shot but the ball bounced straight down and was cleared by the keeper. Concordia forward Peter Schreiber finally untied the scores in the 64th minute as he laced a shot over the shoulder of Muskies goalie Joe Silverberg to go up 1-0.
Schreiber would tally a second goal in the 73rd minute when he finished after receiving an errant goal kick from Lakeland.
Sophomore forward Sam Schroeder (Big Lake, MN) drew the Muskie within one when he slotted home a goal off an assist from senior Charlie VanGinkle (Niagara) in the 84th minute.
The 2-1 score didn’t last, Concordia answered right back a minute later when Josh Vinluan outworked a Muskie defender and bent in a goal over substitute goalie Bryan Stokes (Naperville, Illinois).
Concordia’s Schreiber would be gifted a third goal in the 87th minute when he received a Muskie pass 20 yards out and tucked it away to make it 4-1.
The Muskie Men will be back in action on Tuesday, October 19th when they play Marian College at Kiel High School soccer field at 3 pm.
