WATERTOWN - Taylor Daus (Sr.-Bay Port, Wis.) recorded a career high 19 kills and the Lakeland College women's volleyball team outlasted Maranatha Baptist Bible College for a four-set win Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Conference match.
The Muskies defeated the Crusaders 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 30-28, snapping a three-match losing streak and improving to 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the NAC. Lakeland also pinned a strong Maranatha Baptist team with just its second loss of the season (10-2 overall, 2-2 NAC).
The Muskies were able to withstand the hitting of Torey DeLozier and Laci Peterson, who combined for 42 of Maranatha's 46 kills and hit nearly .400 combined. Both Lakeland and Maranatha Baptist were strong on the attack, with the Muskies hitting .262 with 55 kills and 20 errors in 132 attempts and the Crusaders hitting .242 with 46 kills and 14 errors in 124 attempts.
Daus led Lakeland with 19 kills and just four errors to hit .405. Katie Freitag (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) and Anna Faust (Jr.-Cross Plains, Wis.) both added 11 kills each with a combined four errors between the two. Daus and Faust both had key kills in a fourth set that was tied 14 times and in which the Muskies fought off set point three times.
Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 51 assists in the match. Caleigh Galvan (Fr.-New Lenox, Ill.) led Lakeland with 15 digs while Faust added 14 digs as well as three of the Muskies' 12 service aces.
DeLozier is the NAC's all-time leader in kills and finished with 25 in the match, while Peterson added 17 kills.
Lakeland is home for its next two matches this weekend, beginning with a match Friday night against Dominican (Ill.) University at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium.
