First Annual Athletic Golf Classic a Success
Athletics - posted on 8/8/2005
A total of 100 golfers attended the first annual Lakeland Athletic Golf Classic on Friday, Aug. 5, at Sheboygans Town & Country Club. The event featured 18 holes of golf, a meal, raffle and the opportunity to support Lakeland College Athletics.
The winning foursome, which shot a 58, included Lakeland natural science division chair/womens tennis coach Mike Devaney, Joe Evangelista, accounting professor/1974 graduate Rick Gaumer and 1984 graduate Sim Safford. Second place went to a foursome that included Lakeland mens basketball sophomore Kris Saiberlich, his father Ed, Tom Murray and Jon Halfmann. They shot a 60.
For the first year we were very pleased about the golf outing, said Jane Bouche, Lakelands athletic director. Jim Zebrowski and our entire staff helped make it really successful.
This event will annually fund various projects in the athletic department. This years event will go toward renovating the weight room. This year there were 30 hole sponsors and 20 raffle sponsors, and prizes included two rounds of golf at The Bull, two Green Bay Packer tickets from One Source Technologies, a one-night stay and four water passes from Blue Harbor Resort, four rounds of golf at Quit Qui Oc, a gift certificate and hat from the Skybox, and many more prizes.
We especially want to thank those who donated items and sponsored the event as their contributions helped to make the day successful, Bouche said. We had a great response from the golfers this year and look forward to next years outing.
